Hello runners,
Just wanted to send out a note to update you where we are, and some of the upcoming events.First for those of you that did not see it, there was an article on the front page of the Sunday Journal and Courier about one of our members, Mike Johnson, and his amazing story of perserverance. It is well worth reading and we should be proud to have him as a part of the group.
September 19th, is the next Farmer’s Market 5K race at Cumberland Park in West Lafayette at 6:30PM. For any that haven’t participated in this race, it is free for members of the club and if you bring a friend it is only $3. It is located at Salisbury Street and Cumberland Ave where the West Lafayette Farmer’s Market is held. It is a flat course and since the weather has gotten cooler, it should be an enjoyable run. There is one more Farmer’s Market 5K for this year and that will be held on Oct 17th.
We are also planning a Halloween Run at Cumberland Park on Oct 31st. That will be on a Wednesday, two weeks after the last Farmer’s Market. We plan to start at 7PM and ask that you dress for Halloween, however, we won’t require it. Also it would be wise to bring a flashlight as it might start getting dark as we run. The course will be through the woods and around the pond, back through the woods. The total distance should be around 1 mile so it would be easy enough if you want to do it as a family. This is strictly a Fun Run and will not be timed. There will be a prize for the Best Dressed so start thinking about costumes.
The Club shirts have been printed and we will pick them up this week. We will get them on the web site as soon as we can. If anyone wants to volunteer to take pictures of them for the website, please let me know.
We are still looking for Volunteers for the water stop at the Purdue Half Marathon. We have ten people so far and we need about 5-7 more. We will be at the first water stop, at mile 2.38 so we should not have to stay out on the course as long as the other volunteers. It would be a great way to pay back the people that have helped us in the past. Thank you to those that have already committed to this.
Just a note for next year, several of us ran the Purdue Half Marathon course during the Labor Day weekend. We had quite a good turnout of people running it, so we are planning to make this an annual event to prepare for the race.
I hope everyone is enjoying running in this cooler weather. I know several of you are training for the Chicago or Monumental Marathons and I’m sure there are others we are not aware of, but we hope you train smart and enjoy your race, wherever it is.
