Local runner and Purdue Anthropology Professor, Bryce Carlson, is training to run some very impressive distances in the coming year. In a few days he will run in the grueling 153 mile Spartathalon from Athens to Sparta, Greece. However, this isn’t his only long distance run in his calendar. Bryce has also been selected to participate in the the Race Across the USA this coming January-June of 2015. The Race Across the USA will challenge Bryce physically and mentally as he will run a marathon a day for about 6 months. The team members will be able to rest one day per week and will use the rest day to promote running and healthy lifestyles to area schools. Part of the Race Across the USA is to challenge young people to run or walk 100 miles in a year. The aim is to help prevent or deter childhood obesity and to get people moving from an early age – a goal I know most of us in the WRRC can agree with.
How can you help? The Race Across the USA team is still short some funds needed to complete their running goals. They have set up an online fundraising campaign to help meet their financial needs. The campaign is accepting donations until midnight on September 24th. Every little bit helps.
