There is so much happening on the WRRC board right now and it is very exciting to be a part of it. The new Website is everything we had imagined and more. It has been very exciting to see it develop. We want to give a big “Thank you” to Larry Miller for continuing to keep the other website running as long as he has.
Abby has done a tremendous job on the new website and we are happy to announce she has agreed to stay on as the Web Master. This will be a new position of the WRRC board. She will also need support to keep the information updated so this is a way you can get involved and volunteer. This will be discussed at the next WRRC meeting.
There will be other new positions we would like to fill and these will also be discussed at the next meeting. This meeting will be held on August 15 after the Farmer’s Market 5K. The race is scheduled to start at 6:30 PM so the meeting will start immediately after. The Farmer’s Market 5K is held at the park located at Cumberland Ave and Salisbury St in West Lafayette. We would really like to have everyone participate at this meeting because we have many changes developing in the club structure and it is going to require all of us to pull together to make this happen. We would like for all of you to think of this as “your” club and “your” support group. For this club to be successful we need help from our members. One of the most important positions we need to fill immediately is the Secretary, we would like to have volunteers contact one of the members of the board before the meeting and submit their names so there can be a vote at the August 15th meeting.
Our future also includes improving organized runs and routes. This will require more volunteers to be available for contact people and attending the runs. We will need leaders and support people for these runs. These people should be enthusiastic about running and should be capable of involving runners of all ages and paces (you don’t necessarily have to run their pace).
We are working on designs for shirts and other apparel that will be available in the future. We have chosen a design by Cory Sengsanith that is an exciting new image. We plan to also use this on tents, table skirts, membership cards, letterhead, etc. Besides these projects, we have been working on the By-Laws. These are important guidelines for the club to follow. It is important we spend some time developing them to include everything that will be needed for future club members. Therefore, this project will be continuing for a while.
As you can see, the board has been very busy and we have a very motivated group. That said: Our goal is to become bigger and have more to offer the members and in order to do this, we need exposure. Therefore we are seeking volunteers to work at the Purdue Boilermaker Half Marathon on October 20th. We will be helping out at one of the water stations in exchange for some exposure at the finish line. We plan to have our shirts by then and the volunteers will wear them. We also plan to have our tent and table skirt by then so we can use it for our position at the finish. This is the inaugural Half Marathon at Purdue and there isn’t a better way to get exposure and change our image than to be present at this race.
I hope everyone can see the possibilities we have in the future and agree this is the best path for our club. This club will only be as successful as the members make it. I hope with all your help we can change the image of the club so runners think, “I want to be a part of WRRC, that sounds like fun”
Keep running,
