Purdue’s McClintock Leads Team USA at World XC Championships
Matt McClintock, a freshmen at Purdue University, finished 20th in the junior men’s race at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. The championships were held March 24 in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
McClintock was the top finisher from the United States and led Team USA to a strong fourth place team finish.
“A bunch of us got knocked down in the first 50 meters. One of the guys caught me and told me to get up and maintain my cool. I’m most proud of the fact that I maintained my composure after getting knocked down, and that I was able to keep fighting for my friends and for Team USA.”
Complete results from the junior race can be found on the IAAF website. To learn more about how other Team USA athletes did, including the historically 2nd place team finish by the senior men’s team, visit the USATF website.
